We will teach you how to kill bed bugs
What are these tiny ant-like biting insect in my bed?
I bought a new mattress about 3 weeks ago and just a few days ago I noticed these tiny ant like (but not ants) bugs with black wings in my bed. I only see them one at a time and they are only on the bed, nowhere else in the house.
They are about a half a centimeter long, very skinny, black, have segments like an ant but the last segment is really long. They also have black wings but I’ve never seen them fly. They’re really fast so I end up just killing them before I can get a picture.
I’ve checked my kids and had my husband check me for any signs of lice, fleas, etc. Nothing. They look nothing at all like fleas, mites, bed bugs or lice.
I live in Texas if that makes any difference. Any idea what these are or how to kill them? I’m chemically sensitive so any advice on debugging a bed naturally?
I’ve already called the mattress store. It’s one of the major chains who claim to be “experts” if you catch my drift. They said it’s too late for them to help. Maybe something laid eggs that are just now hatching?

Well, first call the State Atty. Generals office and file a formal complaint against the Mattress company.
Also call the States Dept. of Environmental Protection Agency.
I believe that you might be the victim of mattress parts made in a different country, and now have some new invasive species of wasp or ant.
But boy, If I were you, I would call the local News Papers and T.V. stations and make enough of a stink to get air time and embarrass that store into a full refund + some!

Wow, that sounds really yucky! Sorry, you are having to deal with that! For ID purposes you would really need to get a picture and post it somewhere like:
http://bugguide.net/node/view/6/bgimage
Or, look through their website and see if you can identify it there.
To kill them with something natural and not pesticide I would try:
http://www.orangeguard.com/
My mom uses that stuff and really likes it for occasional pests in the house. But that should be ok to spray on the mattress.
But, I am with the guy above! Get it identified and then tell the world if its something probably from the mattress company and make sure you tell the mattress company before you make it public because they may just want to give you a full refund then instead of letting themselves look bad, unless you want to expose them and save others from dealing with them! Also, its sounds fishy that the company would actually come out and say its probably something hatching? That tells me this is not the first time this has happened with their company! Get what you want as the customer they are there to serve you so don’t let them get away with this! Good Luck!!! Hope you get it figured out!
